
Dr Thimo RUETHERS
Dr Thimo Ruethers is a Singapore-based Research Fellow in Health Sciences at the Tropical Futures Institute, James Cook University (JCU), and Bioinformatics Institute, A*STAR. He also serves as JCU Adjunct Senior Lecturer in Molecular Biology in Australia. With 14 years of allergy research experience across multiple continents, Dr Ruethers specialises in the molecular interactions between food and the immune system, with a particular focus on aquaculture products and novel foods aligned with the Singapore Food Story and UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. He has assessed the allergenicity of more than 100 seafood species and other related invertebrates and vertebrates, discovering over 20 novel allergens. His interdisciplinary work spans medical sciences, biochemistry, immunology, and analytical laboratory techniques, contributing to improved allergy diagnosis, management, and prevention. As passionate science communicator, Dr Ruethers is committed to addressing global food security challenges by advancing food safety, reducing allergy risks, and promoting planetary health.
